As some of you may remember from ages ago I work for a company that deals largely in reprints and monetization of newspaper IP, recently I have been doing a lot of archive work and cleanup, and based on what I have seen in the 90s and early 2000s I think I can pretty much guarantee you that any company which is willing to spend advertising dollars on telling you how wonderful the COMPANY is (as opposed to it’s products) has skeletons in it’s closet and is trying desperately to hide them. Source: “Old” GM, BP, Enron, Tyco, MCI/Worldcom. Who’re today’s offenders? I’d divest now.
I feel like Northrop-Grumman might be a candidate...

Northrup Grumman does that kind of advertising for these reasons:
Customer relations. The public, via the Government, is their customer.
Stock value. Buy NG stock! They are cool!
Recruitment. Lots of NG commercials during college sports games. Gotta engage the #millennials so they send in applications.

There is not a single multinational out there without skeletons in its closet. It’s just part of the cost of doing business. I mean, look at the environmental travesty BP caused in 2010. Yet even today you can still fill your car up at a BP service station anywhere in America as if nothing even happened.

Yeah, as someone who works for/with the Navy, I can tell you that NG is pretty entrenched. They could do a live feed of killing baby penguins on the hour every hour and they'd still be fine.

If Honeywell thermostats don’t melt the ice, Honeywell guidance systems will nuke them into oblivion.

Oh, yeah, 100% true... BUT; when a company’s execs are worried enough about how people think about the company to spend ad dollars to prop up their corporate image *BEFORE* they’ve even had a public problem it’s an indicator that someone somewhere knows something, and is worried.
